Clogged drainage tips for the ill-fated
Unfortunately, most of us have experienced being in the shower with the water level rising rapidly. A stopped drainpipe, quite disgusting and a sign of problems to come!. What about that wet sinking feeling when you are brushing your teeth at the washbasin on a lousy Monday morning and the filled sink just refuses to drain!. Dealing with plugged drainage is all together an unpleasant experience because it is complicated and unsanitary. However, clogged drains are something that cannot be avoided; every household has to cope with it sooner or later. The best way to manage choked bathroom drainage is to learn how to unblock them.
First, let’s look at why drains become obstructed and what are the main causes of a stoppage.
Blocked drainage can result from trapped solid objects such as hair, dust and particles between your bathroom drain pipe and the attached pipes. The problem gets worse when the particle build up is cemented together by the residues of detergents and cleansing cosmetic items. When the offending mass becomes too dense to allow any water to flow through freely, the problem is identified as a clogged drainpipe. If you notice water getting accumulated in your tub or sink, you definitely have blocked drains.
How to remove the drain pipe blockage.
You can do a number of things to unclog your bath or bathroom sink drainpipe. First of all the plug should be removed. In the case of the bathroom sink, you can remove the plug by either pulling it out, unscrewing the nuts that hold it in proper position. In case of your bathtub, the plug can be unscrewed at the mouth of the drainage or the overflow plate can be removed to expose the assembly.
Once you remove the plug, you may then be able to see the source of the blockage. You are most likely to see bunch of hair and other debris entangled in a blockage. Try to get as much of this out as possible by hand, this could solve the drains problem. If the mass is located in a region, where it is difficult for you to grasp it and pull it out, then use a wire clothes hanger to dig into the clump and pull it back through the drain pipe. This step of removing the residual clumps will remove the local blockage at your drainpipe point.
If, after exposing the drain pipe, you observe that the blockage is not close enough for removal with the wire you have, then you will need to find another way. A plunger will be helpful next step in removing clogs that are out of the reach of your hand. Ensure that you have placed a wet rag on the overflow drain – this will produce better suction pressure from the plunger. Then put the plunger over the drain pipe mouth and press it up and down repeatedly. If you are successful, any water, if trapped, will be immediately drained when the plunger is released.
You can unblock the drainage through chemical drain pipe cleaner too if a drainage plunger does not work for you. Chemicals used in these cleaners are toxic and are to be used only when all else fails as they can affect your sanitary fixtures and pose a health hazard.
Call in the drainage Professionals.
If all the do-it-yourself methods fail, then call a plumber experienced in drainage work to do the needful. Professional plumbers will have specialist equipment and know-how to unblock your drainpipe in next to no time. Although availing plumber services can be a costly proposal it gives you the much needed peace of mind as the water starts flowing and the mess is cleaned up.
