Do I still need my pool maintenance during the autumn and winter months?

I have a chlorine pool and have a guy who provided maintenance it throughout the summer. Do I still need him to maintenance it during the months we won’t be using the pool? Should I drain the pool altogether before the maintenance and do I need to top up the chlorine?

  1. How often do you need to drain a private residential pool? Average sized?

We’re buying a home with a pool and have no idea about pool maintenance. Do you need to drain a pool every season, every month, etc. If not do you need to add chemicals if you do not drain the pool?...

  2. how can i get my grass to grow on a soakaway?

the soakaway in my garden drys out completely in the summer months. When it does you can see the out line of the soakaway and the grass is dead where the soakaway is. Even when the grass does grow you can still see the outline as the grass is trying to grow. Any help pls...

Yes. If you drain the pool that would be ok but your water bill might be higher than the cost of maintenance. You shouldn’t have to do too much maintenance if you have a winter cover.

No, you just have to winterize the pool which the maintenance guy should be able to do. This is to keep the pipes from freezing and bursting etc… You shouldnt have to drain the pool, but you definitely have to winterize it, especially if you live in a cold winter area.

Yes, if you have trees…unless you cover it.
You will need to super-chlorinate before covering. You will still need to run your filter for a couple hours a day and if it is going to freeze !

Or, you can drain it about half way…blow out your lines ,drain the filter and shut down your timer….next year you can drain it and fill with fresh water and a start up kit.

Yes, you do. He should pay your pool less visits during the winter. Maybe once a month instead of every week.He will ensure the chemicals are correct and it stays clean.
